Using Archives and Special Collections materials

Archives and Special Collections staff must retrieve materials for patrons. Materials cannot leave the reading room, but free scanners are available for use. We recommend researchers contact us before their visit so staff can retrieve materials and have them ready for use. Researchers can complete an annual registration form in advance online.

Reading room use

When you visit the reading room, we ask that you follow some basic procedures:

  • Store your personal belongings (coats, bags, books, folders) in our storage cabinet.
  • Leave food and drink outside.
  • Use laptops, digital cameras and pencils instead of pens.

Please note that bags, purses and other similar personal items are not permitted at the research tables of the reading room. Space is provided for storage of bags. However, this area is not secure storage for handguns. Any individuals who carry a concealed handgun in their bags must make appropriate arrangements before entering the reading room.
