The New Literacies Alliance (NLA) provides online tutorials that teach students important information literacy skills to aid their research and scholarly pursuits. The lessons can be added in Canvas where instructors can track students' progress and scores.

The NLA online tutorials offer several benefits for both instructors and students.

  • K-State librarians are available to help answer any questions about the lessons.
  • Ensures that all students in a class have the same basic level of skills.
  • Frees up class time to teach more discipline specific research skills.
  • Students can work at their own pace.
  • Lessons can be completed in any order.
  • Each lesson only takes about 8-15 minutes to complete.


Lessons offered

Lessons cover specific topics like search strategies, reading scientific research and evidence-based practice. More lessons are added each year.

About NLA

New Literacies Alliance is a dynamic curricular project led by librarians from multiple institutions across the United States. K-State Libraries are a founding member and major contributor to the effort to expand available learning objects for information literacy and critical thinking. The project creates a common curriculum based on characteristics of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy and related standards.
