The K-State Open Access Publishing Fund (KOAPF) supports making K-State research and scholarship immediately, freely and globally available through open access.
When support is not available from other sources, the KOAPF will assist K-State authors by paying reasonable article processing charges to publish in open-access journals.
Thank you for your interest in the K-State Open Access Publishing Fund. The KOAPF is closed and applications are no longer being accepted. Please reach out to the Center for Scholarly Publishing at cads@k-state.edu if you have any questions.
Apply for a KOAPF award
The KOAPF will accept applications at the beginning of the fall, spring and summer semesters. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Funds are limited, and once all funds have been awarded, the application will close. Announcements will be made in K-State Today when the application is open.
K-State Libraries subscribe to a number of read-and-publish agreements. Some provide article processing charge (APC) benefits for K-State authors, including discounts and the removal of APC charges. Please note, other benefits include only a limited number of APC waivers per year.
Any K-State researcher may request up to $1,500 to pay for article processing charges (APC) for an open access journal.
Awards are limited to one per author per calendar year. Exceptions to this policy may be made on a case-by-case basis depending on funding availability and publishing fees.
For multiple authors, APC waivers and KOAPF funding requests should be submitted by only one group member.
Arts and humanities scholars are encouraged to apply. The KOPAF reserves some awards to support publications in these areas to address program gaps in supporting open access work in these fields.
Note: K-State researchers may benefit from one KOAPF award or one of our limited Cambridge University Press APC waivers per calendar year.
A state account number is requiredfor award transfer. Please consult with your department or unit’s designated financial services specialist to find an appropriate state account number. After the initial transfer, the KOAPF is not responsible for additional transfers or moving funds.
