Rare books

The Morse Department of Archives and Special Collections houses thousands of rare, important, interesting and historically significant books. Like the rest of our collections, our rare books can be used by anyone.

Topics and scope

The rare books collection includes items dating from 1486 through the present day. The breadth of topics in the collection is expansive and includes a wide variety of topics.

While the department continually seeks donations of materials that fit within their collecting areas, we cannot provide appraisals or financial information about personally-held books. The Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the American Libraries Association provides helpful information for those seeking to learn more about their personal rare books.

For more information about this collection contact Roger Adams.

The Limited Editions Collection

K-State is 1 of only 4 libraries to own this complete collection of nearly 600 volumes. Established in 1929 by George Macy, each Limited Editions Club book was issued via mail to club subscribers. The books include original art by famous illustrators, photographers and major artists, most of whom hand-signed each copy; they also feature fine typography, design and binding in a tribute to the art of bookmaking. The collection was donated by Dr. James Marsden, Regents Distinguished Professor in the animal sciences and industry.
