Interlibrary loan
Our fast and free service can:
- Borrow almost anything from other libraries.
- Get articles and book chapters as PDFs from other libraries.
- Deliver materials to distance users.
- Scan articles and book chapters from our collection and send you the PDFs.
Sign in to your account to:
- Request items and view their status.
- Renew items.
- Download PDFs.
- View and resubmit past or cancelled requests.
First-time users will need to complete a registration form.
Requests made after 5 p.m. or on weekends are processed the next business day.
Articles
Most articles requested during business hours are available for download in less than 24 hours. Some articles may take up to five business days.
Physical items
Most physical items are ready for you to pick up within 7-10 business days. Distance users will need to allow an extra 4-12 business days for physical items to be mailed to them.
If you find an item in Search It that we don’t have, click "Not Available? Request from Interlibrary Loan." Search It will automatically fill in most of the request form for you. Simply complete any remaining fields and submit the form. If you are using a database, click the "Get It" button and follow the same process.
You can also submit a request by signing in to your interlibrary loan account and selecting the type of request you need. If you want a scanned PDF from an item in our physical collection, you should log in to your interlibrary loan account to make the request.
Physical items can be returned to a Libraries help desk or book drop.
If an item is renewable, you may request a renewal beginning four days before the due date up to two days past the due date through your interlibrary loan account. If you miss the renewal window or the loan is not listed as renewable, please contact ill@k-state.edu for assistance.
While we do our best to get what you need, some materials are difficult to obtain from other libraries including e-books, archival materials, current periodicals, brand-new books and textbooks.
Requests for scanned material from K-State Libraries’ collection are limited to:
- 50 pages per article or book chapter.
- One book chapter or 10% of a book.
- 30 pages for microforms.
Express Delivery from Article Galaxy Scholar
K-State Libraries also offers Express Delivery from Article Galaxy Scholar, an extension of interlibrary loan that allows K-State students, faculty and staff to have nearly instant access to select current journal articles to which K-State Libraries does not have a subscription.
